The 2nd “Ciudad de Jerez” Carriage Driving Meet comes to Parque González Hontoria on 31 October
Saturday 31 October, from 12:00, with free entry: a friendly, non-competitive day with 15 to 20 carriages and teams.
The Palacio de Villapanés hosted on Friday the presentation of the 2nd “Ciudad de Jerez” Carriage Driving Meet (II Social de Enganches), to be held on Saturday 31 October at Parque González Hontoria, from 12:00, with free entry. Speakers at the event were Francisco Zurita, the city's delegate for Culture, Major Events, Historic Heritage and Jerez Ciudad Cultural, and María Ángeles Mata, president of the Club de Enganches de Jerez, accompanied by club members Juan Manuel Pacheco Domínguez and José Antonio Ganaza.
A day to discover carriage driving
Following the success of the first edition, this second meet aims to bring equestrian tradition, horse care and the culture of carriage driving closer to the public, and to become an established family event in one of the city's most emblematic spaces.
Francisco Zurita said that “holding this second edition shows that the initiative is here to stay, introducing the world of carriage driving to audiences of all kinds”, and thanked the Club de Enganches de Jerez for its work throughout the year and its contribution to the city's equestrian calendar.
María Ángeles Mata explained that the aim is to make it a day of friendship, where goodwill, companionship and the enjoyment of carriage driving take centre stage. She also thanked the City Council for its support, which helps the club fulfil its purpose: passing on the love of driving, protecting and preserving a legacy, and spreading its culture.
What to see
Between 15 and 20 carriages and teams will take part in a relaxed, non-competitive display, designed especially so that families, children and young people can see this tradition up close. From early on, visitors can watch the lorries arrive with the horses and carriages, and the careful preparation of each team. There will also be a social area with food, picnic hampers and a bar.
