The Military Stud of Jerez puts 30 horses up for auction in the Cría Caballar sale
Jerez de la Frontera, 29 September 2026. They are 30 of the 87 horses that the Spanish Armed Forces Horse Breeding Service is selling by sealed-bid auction. Bids can be submitted until 22 October and will be opened on 11 November.
The Spanish Ministry of Defence, through the Armed Forces Horse Breeding Service (Cría Caballar de las Fuerzas Armadas), has opened a new sale of horses no longer suitable for service: 87 horses from six military breeding centres. Thirty of them come from the Military Stud of Jerez, the Military Horse Breeding Centre at Cortijo de Vicos.
The sale is by sealed-bid auction: bidders submit an offer for the lot they are interested in, above a base price set by the Administration, and the bids are opened on 11 November at 10 am at a public session that will be streamed live.
The horses from Jerez
They are lots 1 to 30: 28 Pura Raza Española (Andalusian) and 2 Purebred Arabians, 16 mares and 14 males, with base prices from €300 to €1,400. Some are being sold as surplus stock and others because they are no longer fit for service; the official list gives each horse's age, colour and veterinary notes.
The catalogue includes a sheet for each horse, with its pedigree, its offspring and a video.
How to take part
- Deadline for bids: 20 working days from publication in the Spanish Official Gazette (BOE no. 235, 23 September). Cría Caballar sets 22 October 2026 as the deadline for submitting documents.
- Deposit: 20% of the base price of each lot bid for.
- Viewing the horses: Monday to Friday, 11 am to 1 pm, during the bidding period, at the centre where each horse is kept. The Jerez horses are at the Military Horse Breeding Centre, Cortijo de Vicos, A-382 motorway, km 11.8 (phone +34 856 81 70 47).
- Opening of bids: Wednesday 11 November 2026, 10 am, at the "Los Castillejos" barracks, Paseo de Extremadura, Madrid (entrance on Calle Gordolobo), streamed live.
The horses in this sale are not fit for human consumption. The catalogue is for information only: in case of discrepancy, the official list (Annex I) prevails.
