Painter Antonio M. Villar presents the "EQUUS" exhibition at the Ateneo de Jerez
Jerez de la Frontera, 21 September 2026. The exhibition brings together 25 works devoted to the horse, made with charcoal, Indian ink, watercolour, markers, pencils and acrylic. It can be visited until 7 October, free of charge.
Antonio M. Villar Reguera opens "EQUUS", a solo exhibition of paintings devoted to the horse, on Monday 21 September at 7:30 pm at the Ateneo de Jerez, Calle San Cristóbal, 8.
The collection brings together 25 works centred on the figure of the horse, seen from a personal point of view that focuses on the strength, presence, expressiveness and symbolism of this noble animal. The exhibition is made up mainly of horse busts and heads, in which Villar explores their forms, volumes and gestures using charcoal, Indian ink, watercolour, markers, pencils and acrylic.
After the opening, the Ateneo de Jerez will offer guests a glass of sherry. The exhibition is supported by Pinceles, the association of visual artists of Jerez, of which Antonio Villar is also a member.
The artist
Antonio M. Villar, who signs his work as "AVPainter", is a painter born and based in Jerez de la Frontera. His career has revolved around the representation of reality and different currents of figurative painting: his work moves between realism, the tradition of classical realism and certain influences of Impressionism.
Throughout his career he has worked in watercolour, pastel, charcoal, Indian ink, graphite, markers, pencils and acrylic, paying special attention to drawing, composition, the treatment of light and the capture of detail. With some five hundred works, he has covered a wide range of subjects: besides horses, portraits, traditional and ethnic scenes, and emblematic streets and establishments of Jerez.
In "EQUUS" he focuses on the horse and the expressive possibilities of its anatomy and face, highlighting the ability of painting to convey strength, character and emotion.
