Before it became one of the great equestrian events in Andalusia, the Jerez Fair had a very different setting from the one we know today. Its origins go back several centuries, to a Jerez where horses, dealers and merchants filled different parts of the city with activity.

In 1632, the Fair was established near the Santiago quarter, while livestock was bought and sold in the area now known as the Ronda del Caracol. Horses, mules, breeders and merchants came from far and wide to a fair where livestock was the real star.

From Santiago to Caulina

Over time, the Fair changed location. In 1868, the livestock market moved to the Hato de la Carne, in the Caulina area, opening a new chapter in its history. It was the same year the Jockey Club de Jerez was founded, linked to the horse races on the Llanos de Caulina.

What began as a major trade and livestock gathering gradually became a celebration deeply bound up with the identity of Jerez. Because here the horse is not just a tradition: it is part of our history.
